Dear Directors,

The Play Selection Committee and Artistic Team have begun the process of selecting a slate of plays for the 2017-2018 season and want to, once again, invite you to submit a Director/Play package for consideration.  As in years past, we will select one, two or none from the packages presented for the new season.

Although a play submitted as a Director/Play package is NOT required to meet the season charge, we wanted you to be aware that the Play Selection Committee will again be selecting a varied and balanced slate of plays with a predominant number of women's roles where some of the plays are presented from the woman's point of view or are written by women.

Given that the plays submitted for consideration as Director/Play packages are removed from the reading list so as to prevent another director from possibly applying to direct that show if selected, and given that the Play Selection Committee has already created a list of plays they will be considering for the 2017-2018 season, Director/Play packages will NOT be accepted for any play on the attached reading list.  The plays and musicals being considered by the Play Selection Committee are listed below.   If you had planned to submit one of the plays on the reading list, and if that play is ultimately selected as part of the 2017-2018 season, you are more than welcome to apply to direct that show through the Director Selection process that will begin in early December.

To apply for a Director/Play package, please email Artistic@thecolonialplayers.orgor mail to Artistic Director, c/o The Colonial Players, Inc., 108 East Street, Annapolis, MD  21401 the following information:

  • Name and contact information (mailing address as well as email and phone)
  • Copy of the script/music for the play/musical you are applying to direct (if you don't have a copy - please provide the script name, author, and the publishing house if you know it)
  • Copy of your resume inclusive of your directing and acting experience

All of the above information is due by Thursday, September 1, 2016.

All directors applying for a Director/Play package will be required to interview in early October.  Please include with your email/mailing any conflicts you might have from October 17 through October 28, 2016.  Additional information regarding the interview will be provided upon scheduling.

Please note two important dates related to the 2017-2018 season on which your attendance will be required should your Director/Play package be selected: our annual season Sneak Peek will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2:00pm, and the annual season Kick-Off meeting for directors, designers, consultants, technicians, and crew will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 10am to 2pm.  Please let us know in your email/mailing if either of these dates is a conflict.

Spend the next few weeks to plan and dream, and see if the show you've always wanted to do can become a reality at CP next season!  If you have any questions, contact the Artistic Director, Mickey Lund, at the above email address.
