The fall General Membership Meeting of The Colonial Players will be Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 7:30pm. The agenda includes reports from the Board of Directors, presentation of the Season 72 (2020-2021) budget, and voting on several Bylaw amendments.

The coronavirus continues to present us with new and unusual challenges, and our fall General Membership Meeting - with a vote for Bylaw amendments - provides yet another such situation. At this time, we are planning for a hybrid meeting with a virtual meeting space as well as a small number of physical attendees at the theater. Under our current Bylaws, any changes to the Bylaws require 2/3 majority of qualified voting members present at the meeting to approve. The Bylaws also require a meeting location within 15 miles of the theater. Our interpretation is that “location” implies a physical space. Under these provisions, members attending the meeting virtually would be unable to vote.

One of the Proposed Bylaw changes to be voted on at the October meeting is the addition of a virtual meeting space as an option. It is our intention to vote on that Bylaw amendment as the first order of business at the meeting, and make it effective immediately. This would then allow any members present via the virtual location to vote on the remainder of the Bylaws.

Current state restrictions do not allow us to reopen the theater to audiences. However, we are able to open our building for a meeting of up to 25 people, with required safety measures in place. (This includes wearing masks and physical distancing.) Board members will be part of the 25, however we would like to have additional members present to vote on the first Bylaw amendment.
