SHOW SYNOPSIS
What is art? How about a painting that is entirely white? Would it be art? One of Marc’s best friends, Serge, has just spent most of his savings on such a painting. Marc is initially incredulous, then amused and ultimately outraged by this. Their mutual peace-making friend, Yvan, though burdened by his own problems, allows himself to be pulled into this disagreement. Lines are drawn and these old friends square off over the canvas. What begins with hilarity dissolves into vicious cruelty, as friendships are pushed to their very limits.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
All roles are open. Descriptions are of character appearance and temperament, not age of actors. The show requires 3 men.
Marc (40s+) is an aeronautical engineer; he can be arrogant, overbearing, and self-righteous.
Serge (40s+) is a successful dermatologist and has a passion for modern art; a bit smug, even pretentious, but his knowledge and love of modern art in general and the Antrios in particular is genuine.
Yvan (40s+) is a sales representative for his fiancée’s uncle’s stationery business. He will pay almost any price to heal the rift between his friends.
Note: There are no plans to use accents in this play at this time, even though it’s set in Paris and contains a fair amount of British slang.
