Little Women Post-Show Discussion
Colonial Players is pleased to announce the Post-Show Discussion for Little Women! It will be held after the matinee performance on November 20, 2011 in the theatre.
The creator of Little Women, Louisa May Alcott, served as a nurse early in the Civil War and wrote a vivid account of her wrenching experiences in her 1863 book, Hosptial Sketches.
She was a strong woman and she had some strong opinions. She mentions passing through Baltimore while traveling to Washington and passing “near the spot where the riot took place, and feel as if I should enjoy throwing a stone at somebody, hard." If this reference to “the riot” is puzzling to you, don’t worry, All will soon become clear.
This Sunday, we are very lucky to have Alice Tennies to tell us about not only the riot, but the times in which Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy lived: turbulent times when feisty and talented women were demanding to be heard. Alice taught school for awhile and then, like Louis May Alcott, one day decided to do more. She became a computer specialist, and then an expert on the Civil War and now shares her expertise as a tour guide with Watermark Tours.
Join us on Sunday for this enlightening discussion! If you don't have a ticket to the sold-out matinee performance, please join us for the discussion anyway, which should kick off around 5:00 pm!
