Revenge, paranoia, conspiracy theories, torture, and regret so thick it’s impossible to step through, underscore Sharr White’s Sunlight, now playing at Colonial Players' theatre in downtown Annapolis. This familial political drama is multi-leveled and highly topical given we are in the midst of an intensely polarized presidential race. Gone are the days when college president and staunch liberal stalwart Matthew and his conservative son-in-law, Vincent, can debate the issues and still sit down to a relaxed family dinner. Now the two men are pitted against each other, and Charlotte (Matthew’s daughter and Vincent’s wife) is smack in the middle. The issues are painful and the men’s motivation for clinging so tightly to their opinions is very personal. Sunlight’s characters can be found in almost any American family or social circle and will surely inspire conversation long after the curtain falls and the lights go up.
