July Pub Reading: Anton in Show Business
Written by Jane Martin
The Pub Readings are back! The first Sunday of the months of May, June, July, and August, Harry Browne's (downtown at 66 State Circle) hosts Colonial Players' Pub Reading Series. Join us upstairs at HB's for our July Pub Reading on Sunday, July 7 @ 7 p.m.
Beth Terranova directs a cast of lovely ladies in the July reading of Anton in Show Business by Jane Martin. The winner of the 2001 American Theatre Critics Steinberg New Play Award, this madcap comedy follows three actresses across the footlights and down the rabbit hole to a strangely familiar Wonderland that looks a lot like American theatre. As these women pursue their dream of performing Chekhov’s Three Sisters in Texas, they’re whisked through a maelstrom of “good ideas” that pepper the process of producing a play. In the tradition of great backstage comedies, Anton in Show Business conveys the joys, pains, and absurdities of “putting on a play” in the new millennium.
Featuring Michelle Bruno, Andrea Elward, Karen Lambert, Kaelynn Miller, Shirley Panek, and Theresa Riffle, this play within a play within a play will make you laugh, cry, and laugh again.
Stop by and enjoy theatre in a congenial atmosphere. Comedy and drinks...what more do you need to get over the Sunday Night Blues?
The pub readings are very popular so you may want to arrive early to guarantee yourself a seat, but they are short enough that you can stand and still enjoy them.
