The Colonial Players is offering several performance and technical workshops to be conducted throughout the 2014-2015 season. All workshops will take place on Saturdays and will be held either at The Colonial Players Annex or Theater. Workshop topics include: Voice and Diction, Lighting, Costuming, Musical Theatre, and Stage management. Voice & Diction
Led by Lessac Master Teacher Nancy Krebs, this four-hour, sensory-based workshop is an introduction to the Lessac Kinesensic Training, concentrating on breathing, posture, the importance and benefits of the consonants in speech and song, focusing the voice for more power without pain, and strategies for developing more awareness of the flexible, expressive physical presence onstage and off. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or blanket for floor exercises. This workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, MD, 21401. The workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014, with a working lunch provided by The Colonial Players. The cost of this workshop is $75.00. A discounted cost of $40.00 is available for current members of The Colonial Players.
Introduction to Stage Lighting
Presented by Parlights, Inc., this workshop introduces the basics of stage lighting, beginning with an overview of typical equipment, with an emphasis on getting it all up and working safely. Other topics include: lekos, scoops, fresnels, connectors, plugs, lamps, basic lighting positions, and electrical safety. This workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Theater at 108 East Street, Annapolis, MD, 21401. The workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014, with a working lunch provided by The Colonial Players. The cost of this workshop is $35.00. A discounted cost of $20.00 is available for current members of The Colonial Players.
Costuming
This beginner-to-intermediate level workshop focuses on costume design in the community/high school theatre arena, as an introduction to designing and executing the costume plot of a show (it does not cover fashion design, or the actual creation of design sketches and patterns), and the responsibilities of the costume designer. Participants should have a basic knowledge of theatre and sewing terms. This workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, MD, 21401. The workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014. The cost of this workshop is $20.00. A discounted cost of $10.00 is available for current members of The Colonial Players.
Musical Theatre
This workshop will be held over two Saturdays. Session 1 will cover how to prepare for an audition, selecting an appropriate song, practicing and warming up. Participants will determine their vocal range, match pitches, and explore musical styles, and will be given a choice of three different musicals in preparation for a mock audition. Session 2 will begin with the mock auditions, followed by general feedback and an open discussion. Individual feedback will be available at the end of the workshop. Participants should bring materials for taking notes and will need to provide their own sheet music for Session 2. Both sessions will be held at The Colonial Players Annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, MD, 21401. Both sessions will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m on Saturday, January 10, 2015 and Saturday, January 24, 2015. The cost of this workshop is $35.00. Stage Management & Stage Crew
This workshop includes everything from the first production meeting to set strike: addressing the relationship with the director and production staff, questions to ask during rehearsal, creating props lists and a props table, determining personal props, choreographing set changes and quick costume changes, calling cues vs. panic buttons, tech booth issues, guns and other dangerous and/or valuable props, logistics of a musical vs. a non-musical show. This workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Theater at 108 East Street, Annapolis, MD, 21401. This workshop will begin at The Colonial Players Annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, MD, 21401 with a trip to the theatre in the afternoon. The workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, with a working lunch provided by The Colonial Players. The cost of this workshop is $35.00.
