The Colonial Players is offering something for everyone during the 2015-2016 season, starting with an acting class taught by Sharie Valerio! Also back, by popular demand, are last season’s workshops by Nancy Krebs and Walt Dowling, along with continuation workshops by both those instructors. Nancy adds “Further Adventures in the Lessac Kinesensic Voice & Body Training” and Walt will go further in depth with lighting design in “Stage Lighting Design (Continued).” Finally, to round out the season, Sean Urbantke will lead a workshop called Set Design and Digital Rendering, for those interested in learning the ropes of set design and for designers interested in learning about the software tools available to them.

Acting Class with Sharie Valerio
Sharie Valerio teaches this four-week acting class (ages 18 and over) for those who want to learn about auditioning, rehearsals and techniques, and for more experienced actors who want to take on greater challenges and try new approaches. All classes will be held at the Colonial Players annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, and will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays, September 19th through October 10th. In addition to being a veteran of the Colonial Players’ and many other stages, Sharie Valerio has an MFA in acting from Catholic University, and she has taught acting at Towson University, Anne Arundel Community College, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre, The Colonial Players, and Severn School. Subject matter will include script and scene analysis, finding the truth and excitement of a character, warm-up exercises, how to select monologues, and how to bring your best game to an audition. Class size per session is limited to 12. The fee for this class is $15 per session for Colonial Players members (or $50 for those who sign up for all four) and $20 per session for nonmembers.
Stage Lighting and Fundamentals of Design
Presented by Walt Dowling of Parlights, Inc., the workshop begins with a recap of last season’s Introduction to Stage Lighting workshop, with an overview of lighting equipment and an emphasis on getting it all up and working safely. The session then moves into an overview of the qualities and functions of light, and exploring the right fixtures in the right place. The workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Theater at 108 East Street, Annapolis, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015. A working lunch will be provided by The Colonial Players. The fee is $20 for current members of The Colonial Players and $35 for nonmembers.
Voice & Body Training (Introduction)
Led by master teacher Nancy Krebs, this four-hour sensory-based workshop is an introduction to the (Arthur) Lessac Kinesensic Training—concentrating on breathing, posture, the importance and benefits of the consonants in speech and song, focusing the voice for more power without pain, and strategies for developing more awareness of a flexible and expressive physical presence onstage and off. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or blanket for body work. The workshop will be held at the Colonial Players annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015. A working lunch will be provided by The Colonial Players. The fee is $40 for current members of The Colonial Players and $75 for nonmembers.
Stage Lighting Design (Continued)
Walt Dowling of Parlights, Inc. presents this continuation of stage light design in this session outlining a quick and simple method for choosing and locating color in a lighting plot. From an overview of basic color theory to an exploration of how colors on stage affect one another, this class covers choosing a coordinated color palette and how to place it in the light hang. The workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Theater at 108 East Street, Annapolis, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015. A working lunch will be provided by The Colonial Players. The fee is $20 for current members of The Colonial Players and $35 for nonmembers.
Further Adventures in Lessac Kinesensic Voice & Body Training
Once again led by Lessac Master Teacher Nancy Krebs, this more advanced workshop takes participants through a review of Consonant Energy, covers principles of the Three Body Energies and how they assist in performing any activities, and further explores the voice with Tonal Energy—creating power without pain, strength without strain! Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or blanket for body work. The workshop will be held at the Colonial Players annex at 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015. A working lunch will be provided by The Colonial Players. The fee is $40 for current members of The Colonial Players and $75 for nonmembers.

Participants will be divided into groups for a hands-on practicum. The workshop will be held at The Colonial Players Theater at 108 East Street, Annapolis, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
