The Colonial Players, Inc. of Annapolis, Maryland is pleased to announce the winner of their biennial Promising Playwright Contest!

Andrea Fleck Clardy, of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts was selected for her script Job Loss Figures. In addition to a June workshop focused on the script, Clardy takes home a prize of $1,000.

The Contest Workshop runs the weekend of Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25, 2017.  Workshop activities will include rehearsal readings of the script, several production forums that incorporate recommendations from writers, technical designers and actors, and a final public reading that includes audience reaction and feedback.

The following events during the Contest Workshop are free and open to the public:

Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 5 p.m. - Meet and Greet with the Playwright, at Harry Browne’s, 66 State Circle

Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. - Reading of Job Loss Figures, followed by a feedback discussion with the audience, at The Colonial Players, 108 East Street

About the Playwright: Born in NYC and raised in New Jersey, Andrea Fleck Clardy attended Swarthmore College and Harvard University, and worked in publishing for thirty years at Crossing Press, ILR Press, and Cornell University Press. Her short plays and monologues have been widely produced. ACT IV, a community theater in Plainfield, NJ, created a full-length production of her short plays. Hide and Seek, a children’s play with music by Clark Gesner, premiered at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY. Two of her short plays — The Magic Fish and Heartland —are included in Smith and Kraus’ Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2016. Her other publications include a children’s book, a series of calendars about remarkable American women, a collection of newspaper columns, and a writer’s guide to feminist publishing.
