The Colonial Players is hosting a special post-show forum, featuring Dr. David DeVorkin of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, following the Sunday, January 20th matinee of Silent Sky.
Dr. DeVorkin, Senior Curator of History of Astronomy and Space Sciences, will discuss a bit of background on the significance of Henrietta Leavitt’s work, with historical context and insights into intellectual practice of that day, as well as a short overview of women’s changing roles in astronomy. Dr. DeVorkin holds a PhD in the History of Astronomy from the University of Leicester and a Master of Philosophy in Astronomy from Yale University. He is the author/editor/compiler of nine books and more than 100 scholarly and popular articles: most recently, with Robert Smith and Elizabeth Kessler, The Hubble Space Telescope: New Views of the Universe (National Geographic Books 2004).
Both the performance and the forum on that day will be ASL-interpreted, with services provided by First Chair Interpreted Productions, LLC.
The post-show event is free and open to the public; please join us for this enlightening discussion! You do not need to attend the matinee performance to attend the discussion, which will begin around 4:15 pm.
