The Colonial Players is pleased to announce the return of our summer One-Act Festival, and we are currently soliciting Directors and Production Staff!

As in the past, the festival will consist of two slates and run for two weekends: July 24-26 and July 31-August 2, 2020.

Directors:

This year the slates will be filled primarily through Director/Play packages. Interested Directors should look for a play published by a known publishing house, with a running time between 20 and 45 minutes, and suitable to be staged in the round with minimal set. All Directors are welcome to submit an application, but the Colonial Players One-Act Festival is a prime opportunity for new (and new-to-us) Directors, and will provide a supportive workshop environment for those stepping into this arena for the first time.

If you are interested in directing and would like access to the CP Script Library to peruse some one-act plays, please contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

To Apply:

Please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than March 1, 2020, with the following information:

  • Title, author, and publishing house of the play.
  • A brief description of your concept for the play.
  • Your Directing resume**
  • Your availability for an interview between March 9-15, 2020.
  • A pdf of your script.

Please also indicate whether you would be interested in directing a different show if your play is not selected for the Festival.

**Because the One-Act Festival encourages new directors, we understand your resume may be light on the directing side; acting experience, backstage experience - especially stage management or production work - and other experience leading a project or a team may all be pertinent.

Each interview will last about 20 minutes. Although everyone on the committee will have read your play, we'd like to hear more about what drew you to it and your vision for it.  Prior to your interview, you will be sent a set of questions to address.

Production Staff:

We are also encouraging budding and aspiring designers (tech, lights, sound, costumes, props) and stage managers to join us and work on the one-acts. This is the perfect vehicle to get your start on the production side of the house. Colonial Players will be providing mentors for every production area so that anyone can join in on the fun! Whether you want to design your own one-act or just watch how it's done, we're here to help you try something new.
